The Place of Football, composed of a broad system of practices and social representations, is considered a product of both collective and individual expression in space, reverberating throughout urban life and the domain of everyday existence. In the Brazilian context, since the assimilation of football, this place has undergone several transformations. In contemporary times, the rise of football’s commodified and spectacularized nature has consequences not only for the sport itself but, above all, for the social environment connected to the game. The place of football constitutes a significant context for strengthening a collective identity deeply associated with the territory, with the stadium serving as the architectural symbol of this expression. This centrality integrates an essentially urban territory in constant dispute, whether of a socioeconomic, political, material, or cultural nature. Football, as a global product, establishes patterns that promote the loss of place identity in the name of spectacle, driven by the transformation of football into a commodity and fans into consumers. This phenomenon disrupts the club-community-place relationship from a multiscalar perspective. The impact of football on place emerges as a relevant field of investigation within geographical, urban, and architectural studies, justifying and guiding the production of historical and scientific records aimed at describing, reflecting upon, and proposing actions concerning the place of football. In this regard, this research aims to demonstrate the relevance of the place of football as a structuring element of local identity and urban landscape, using the capixaba club Associação Atlética Desportiva Ferroviária Vale do Rio Doce as a case study. To achieve this, the study discusses the process of football's metropolitanization in Brazil and the resulting losses for football in the Metropolitan Region of Grande Vitória, Espírito Santo. Furthermore, it reflects on possible practices oriented towards the place of football to promote a process of reterritorialization through the construction of community autonomy in this space. To this end, the research follows a qualitative, descriptive-analytical methodology aimed at capturing the object of study in its entirety, through the following methodological steps: conceptualization of the place of football based on multidisciplinary literature; development of a representation of the place of football in the Metropolitan Region of Grande Vitória; construction of a closer representation of Desportiva Ferroviária, based on participant observation and interviews, to characterize practices and delimit the scope of the place of football within everyday life; documentary research for cataloging existing documentation and developing a representation of the concrete object. As a result, the study aims to construct a representation of the place of football, characterizing the football stadium as both a physical and symbolic centrality within urban space, while also demonstrating its significance beyond the stadium itself in shaping place and urban landscape. Additionally, the research seeks to develop propositional essays concerning the place of football, recognizing its potential as a mediating element for the development of a local project through practices that foster the resistance of place and the autonomy of the community against centralizing and globalized forces exerted upon it

In the field of cultural heritage and territoriality, it is considered necessary to discuss the processes of construction and management of the territory from a transdisciplinary approach, aimed at local development and the valorization of territorial heritage, overcoming the dichotomy between conservation and transformation. Considering the ongoing process of deterritorialization and the advance of the production of urban spaces over rural ones, the research was dedicated to the study of territory as heritage and the concept of urban bioregion, an approach taken by the Italian Territorialist School. In this context, the territorial heritage of the Serra de Ouro Preto/MG was adopted as the object of research due to the identification of a critical limit of occupation in the region, pointed out on four fronts: the buildings constructed on archaeological sites of the mining societies of the 18th and 19th centuries; the buildings in areas of geological risk; the production of residential condominiums; and the advance of mining over open spaces. In addition, as this is a transitional region between the city of Ouro Preto and its countryside, the urban-rural relationship was discussed in relation to bioregional planning. Based on the above, permanence, persistence and loss were established in the Serra's land mass and, in a propositional exercise, these elements were adopted as premises for thinking about the territory under a bioregionalist reading key. To this end, we carried out qualitative and descriptive research based on the methodologies developed by the Italian Territorialist School, which consist, firstly, of establishing the urban bioregion in which the object of study is located, by recognizing its environmental, political, living and economic domains, and, secondly, of representing the identity of the place, through a historical-structural and morphotypological reading of the territory, interpretation and representation of its territorial heritage. The work is based on bibliographical research of a historical, theoretical-conceptual and methodological nature and on documentary research. In this way, it contributes: to discussions about the triad Territorial Heritage - Urban Bioregion - Self-sustainable Local Development; to conceptual methodological experimentation on the urban bioregion; to the application of the methodology of identity representation in a Brazilian context; and to the deepening of knowledge about the Serra de Ouro Preto/MG.

This dissertation examines the relationships between water bodies and cities through the lens of Urban Morphology, aiming to explore the "dynamics of bodies", that is, the processes shaping both water and physical bodies over time. The main objective is to identify the forms and relationships between lagoons and urban design in the municipality of Linhares, from 1950 to 2000. The study employs a descriptive and exploratory methodology, organized into four stages. The first stage involves an interdisciplinary literature review addressing the role of water bodies in urban settings, drawing on research from architecture and urbanism. The dissertation presents definitions of lagoons, informed by geography, limnology, and geomorphology. Additionally, it explores Urban Morphology, which serves as the theoretical foundation for examining physical bodies, urban design, and their formal relationships. The following stages are divided into three levels of analysis. The first level focuses on the lagoons and the territory of Linhares, defined by the municipality’s administrative boundaries. A historical analysis, based on documentary research, reveals how the terrain influences lagoon formation and shape, underscoring the connection between the territory and water bodies. Formal analysis includes creating maps, cartographies, and topographic profiles. Concurrently, the lagoons’ forms are analyzed using metrics such as size, shape, and classification, offering tools to understand their specificities and spatial relationships. The second level shifts to the District of Linhares, the most urbanized area of the municipality. It starts with a historical contextualization, incorporating textual, cartographic, and iconographic documentation. The formal analysis addresses the genesis of the urban grid, focusing on the initial settlement and its influence on the design, as well as the current form of the urban design. Next, the relationships between the urban design, terrain, and lagoons are examined, providing insights for the territorial analysis in the subsequent level. This stage involves collecting and organizing documentation, producing conjectural maps, and interpreting the findings within the theoretical framework. The third level centers on the Lagoa do Aviso as a key element, analyzing the formal relationships between the lagoon and the surrounding urban design over time. Graphical analysis, diagram production, and conjecture development are employed to study these relationships. This analysis reveals the impacts of urban growth, including a reduction in the lagoon’s area, changes to the terrain, and deformation of the urban design. These processes highlight the absence of adequate urban planning, along with weaknesses in environmental legislation and enforcement during the period studied. Through these stages, the dissertation aims to provide insights into the dynamics of bodies and contribute to the fields of architecture and urbanism by offering theoretical and methodological tools based on Urban Morphology. The work seeks to enhance discussions on the relationships between water bodies and urban environments, providing a deeper understanding of how cities and their water systems evolve over time

This essay takes value from the flow spaces in the cities, in effort to contribute with approaches and urban studies focused on the challenges of the contemporary urban planning keeping the pedestrianism as its protagonist. The opening chapter points out concepts adopted for the critical thinking development which will be reinforced in the text: city, citizen, pedestrian-citizen and their economic, social and cultural interactions, through a new sociability under evolution. It values the act of walk through the city as generator of new social interactions in a way to amplify the changes in the flow spaces of daily life. The next topic is shown as a bibliographical review highlighting two authors - Kevin Lynch and Yi-Fu Tuan - who deal with the interface between walkability and vitality on public spaces, whose approaches are intended to be updated throughout this essay. Jerônimo Monteiro Avenue and its surroundings are the empirical object addressed in a specific chapter, due to its historical and functional role within the city of Vitória (ES), focusing on its memory and the experience at the place. The adopted methodology presupposes bibliographical research, documentary and paths mapping, intended to identify points of convergence and conflicts, nodal points and flows, from the analysis of its morphology in comparison with the pointed incursions. New layers are overlapped to the space reading as a look at the pedestrian movement and the view of the researcher also as a pedestrian. From that point, conflicts are identified regarding the use of Jerônimo Monteiro Avenue for the circulation of people and goods, in different transport modals with timing and speeds difficult to reconcile. It concludes with the need to consolidate critical thinking, pointing to opportunities for the potentialization of the walkability in spaces known as flows, but with vocations to stop and contemplation, making the spaces of flows became into living places

A reestruturação urbana no entorno da Rodovia Leste-Oeste (471-ES): uma nova Cariacica, a quem ela está destinada?
(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2024-03-01) Pinheiro, Isabela Teodoro; Miranda, Clara Luiza; https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9636-2572; Campos Júnior, Carlos Teixeira; Silva, Letícia Tabachi
The ongoing urban restructuring is addressed, around the East-West Highway that connects the municipalities of Cariacica and Vila Velha in the Metropolitan Region of Greater Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo. The highway was proposed to establish a new axis of socioeconomic and metropolitan development, being initiated in 2007 and completed in 2018. The reality researched comprises the socio-environmental impacts between the highway, the private subdivision Parque Leste Oeste, the Hospital Geral de Cariacica and a neighborhood peripheral, Jardim Campo Grande. The planning process for the East West highway simultaneously brought together state interests; of the two municipalities involved; from Companhia Docas do Espírito Santo – Codesa –, at the time a public port, located in Vila Velha on the banks of Vitória Bay; the dry ports of Cariacica (northern region), located on Rodovia do Contorno (BR-101); unions linked to port workers and real estate agents. In this context, a “New Cariacica” is announced, as it is expected to boost the development of the municipality, reinforcing its position as a logistics hub, as the municipality is home to dry ports, and its proximity to the real estate frontier of the Vila Velha waterfront, at the moment, the most dynamic at RMGV. To understand it, a study was carried out on the urban evolution of the southern region of the municipality, where the spatial area is located, from the colonial period (16th century) to the present, observing the ruptures, changes and continuities. The approach includes concepts from critical theory such as: urban restructuring, scaling, rescheduling and urban extractivism. According to the ongoing analysis, it appears that the ongoing urban restructuring, with a different pattern in relation to the pre-existing precarious and peri-urban socio-environmental configuration, carries out the private appropriation of public and common goods, related to the use of urban extractivism techniques.
