Resumo
This research aims to analyze the representations of violence against women within couple relationships in Latin American cinema, for which eight (8) films were selected: Amores perros (González, México, 2000); Amor y frijoles (Kodath & Pereira, Honduras, 2009); Cicatrices (Del Toro, México, 2005); Ella y él (Pérez-Garland, Perú, 2015); Salsipuedes (Luque, Argentina, 2012); Sexo con amor (Quercia, Chile, 2003); Un novio para mi mujer (Taratuto, Argentina, 2008); Vidas partidas (Schetman, Brasil, 2017). It is a descriptive#documentary study based on the analysis of film productions made in Latin America. It was used the thematic analysis (Braun and Clarke, 2006), which is a qualitative analytical method used in psychology, in addition to theoretical contributions on symbolic and cultural violence, along with feminist film theories. To develop the analysis, a classification was made into two main themes: violence against women in intimate relationships (physical, sexual, psychological and patrimonial) and micro-misogyny (utilitarian, covert, coercive and crisis). Other factors were also considered for the study, such as: the description of the characters, context in which the violence takes place, causes and consequences of the violence, justification and treatment of the violence. The results show that the manifestations of the different types of violence against women carried out by the intimate partner occur simultaneously and on several occasions, with a predominance of psychological aggression along with other expressions of coercion. It was also evidenced that the possible causes of violence and micro-misogyny against women appear in most cases, justified and attributable to themselves, women are usually blamed for the violence they receive, relieving the male partner of the responsibilities for the acts he performed, executing the representation of this social problem based on a highly misogynistic perspective. It is emphasized that both the violence expressed directly, and the one represented symbolically through signs, signals or sequels of violence are equally significant. When observing the representations of violence and micro-misogyny, it was confirmed that the conjunction of technical and artistic elements typical of cinema is relevant for the analysis.
