Resumo
This research aimed to analyze, from the theoretical-methodological perspective of Materialist Discourse Analysis, the effects of meaning (re)produced against the Worker’s Party (WP), which operate by establishing an association between the party’s presence in the national political arena and an alleged communist “threat” in Brazil. The study focused on discursive materials from the 2015 and 2016 rallies in support of the impeachment of former president Dilma Rousseff. Within these materials, it was possible to identify, among other utterances, formulations that reawaken the memory of anti-communist discourse in Brazil through various thematic pathways. To support the analytical procedures, the concept of discursive memory, as developed by Jean-Jacques Courtine (1981), was employed in order to understand the socio-historical and ideological factors that shape these discursive practices opposing the WP, which include the production of anti-communist statements. From this interpretative standpoint, the research sought to understand how anti-PT discourse resonates with and rearticulates a perspective that frames communism—and other sectors of the political left—as an internal enemy to be confronted within the national context. This is carried out through a fascist-populist, fetishistic functioning of ideology (Žižek, 2011), which serves to justify coup-driven actions within Brazil’s capitalist social formation, as evidenced in utterances that can be situated within an Anti-Leftist Discursive Formation.
