Resumo
Violence is nowadays an important social problem, with implications for health and human development, becoming a major concern of governments and international agencies. Being increasingly recognized in its multiple dimensions, it can be observed its inclusion in the agenda of different sectors of Brazil’ public policies, resulting in the creation or reorganization of services, and bringing considerable challenges for the offering of care. Among the challenges, it is a central issue how policies are appropriated by social actors. For that reason it is an important tool for the comprehension and the progress of actions to cope with violence to understand the way in which professionals appropriate and produce knowledge of policies and practices about theirs object of intervention, as well as its context of production. To contribute to this reflection, the study aimed to investigate social representations and practices on violence produced by professionals working in a care network. Data was collected in four public services of a municipal territory, being one health service and three social assistance services, through four individual interviews, four focus groups, one document analysis and a participant observation in one of the surveyed services. Thematic content analysis of the four data sets was made. For the focus groups and the document was also employed Lexical analysis with the use of Iramuteq and Alceste software. The results revealed the heterogeneity of elements of the representational field of violence shared by professionals. The most salient aspects refer to a central image of violence as complex and rooted phenomenon, having a social and relational nature, where the notion of its complexity simultaneously indicates its multidetermined character and its difficulty to be handled. These representations are produced from the technical and scientific knowledge and the experience lived in the context of work, which is permeated by a number of difficulties, having as major anchoring: public policies and their support paradigms, the lived experience in the immediate context, and the representations of community (and drug traffic present in it), adolescents and families. Differences in how professionals perceive violence were identified between the health and social care services. The perception of the role of service in relation to violence is the most important difference. The health service, since they apprehend violence based on biomedical paradigm, do not take the violence as its object of intervention, but only as a social issue. Another finding is that professionals in both areas do not judge themselves fully able to intervene, and that this belief is related to the difficulties faced in daily work. Such problems contribute to form a fatalistic image of violence as something irreversible, and produce practices that deviate from the integrality, the intersectionality and promotion. It was possible to distinguish the relationship of mutual determination between the social representations of violence and practices, and the key role played by the work context permeated by strong constraints in the production of representations and practices. Representations fulfil the justifying and guiding functions of practices that, when played, transform representations.
