Os valores do lugar na intervenção projetual em preexistência crítica: uma metodologia representativa a partir de estudos de caso Portugal-Brasil

Resumo
Considering the trajectory of discourse regarding the urban dimension in interventions driven by the challenge of integrating new architectural forms into critical pre-existence, the study emphasizes the relevance of theoretical and methodological reflection aimed at formulating analytical tools on the territory, guiding both the thinking and the design actions. It is understood that the elaborations are limited when based solely on the recognition of the place itself, as they predominantly structure around the architectural object as the dominant reference in isolation. Thus, a critical judgment of the values of the place is adopted as a design key, with the aim of developing conceptual and methodological assumptions, analytical and representational, for interventions in critical pre-existence through an operative design matrix. Methodologically, the study is conducted through a qualitative approach, with descriptive, analytical, and synthetic dimensions, grounded in representation narratives according to a territorialist approach and case studies selected from a binational perspective—Brazil and Portugal—chosen for their project and discursive contributions to architecture in and/or in their countries of origin. In this regard, the concepts of environment, ambiance, locus are discussed, and the notion of value is confronted in order to define the conceptual field of heritage values. As a result, the following is observed: i) the contribution of territorial representation to the interpretation of the heritage values of places in the design process; ii) the application of an analysis and representation methodology enabling the identification of design strategies; iii) the establishment of connections in the way of addressing the place in the context of intervention in critical pre-existence between Portugal and Brazil, individualized in the defined architects, regarding the role of place in project definitions; iv) the understanding, discussion, and validation of analytical representational and design strategies identified in the case studies; v) the definition of an analytical-representational methodological system for design actions in critical pre-existence intervention contexts. Overall, the study affirms the relevance of valuing the place for proposing an urbanistically coherent architectural design with the values of the place.
