Resumo
The Samarco Expanded Work Accident (ATA) caused by the breaching of the Fundão dam (BRF) is characterized as a technological disaster. The ATA is that originated in the work process that extrapolates the physical limits of responsibility of the organization and causes human, social, cultural, economic and or environmental damages with consequences to the physical and mental health of immediate form, short, medium and or long not only for workers, but also for the population as a whole. BRF was considered to be the largest volume mining disaster of released tailings, which were discharged in Rio Doce, one of the most important rivers in the Southeast, directly affecting the livelihoods of cities in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo. In the group of people affected by the RBF are the workers, who were directly and indirectly affected, whether in health, social, employment, income, etc. Considering the importance of the topic for public health and considering print newspapers as a generator of information for society, the study proposed to analyze the intersections of technological disasters and ATA with newspapers printed in the ES from the RBF with the creation of a protocol of collecting classification and analysis of news from printed newspapers related to the ATA and its applicability. A large volume of material was detected on the RBF, but these were not portrayed in their origin, but covered by the response and reconstruction phases, that is, they did not highlight the management of the occupational risks of the mining activities. Unfortunately, accidents and occupational diseases are not portrayed as a serious public health problem, not even work accidents with multiple victims and environmental impacts.
