Resumo
This is a literary analysis of the romance Cien Años de Soledad (1967), from the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, that takes as clipping the theme of death, or of the idea of death, approached from the mythical bias. The study starts with the understanding that the main structure of Cien Años de Soledad has the particularity of being circular and presenting repetitions, characteristics that establish a dialogue with the structure of the myths, which enables the myths to be, in the novel, means of expression of multiple other themes, among which is the death theme. The romance is about the trajectory of the Buendía family since their exodus from Rioacha to the ending of this lineage in Macondo, a city idealized and founded by the first members of this family. Starting with this, the individual trajectory of the members of this family, the trajectory of the lineage as a whole and of the town of Macondo are taken and entwined, and mythical outputs are then discussed in these pathways to deal with the reality of the individual finitude. The possibility of the regeneration that is supported by the myth of eternal return in contrast to the mythical belief in destiny and the acceptance of death as the end of all being is highlighted in this study.
