dc.description.abstractThe discussions of the thesis are based on an investigation of the analysis of two main questions: The discussions undertaken in the thesis are based on the analysis of two main questions: (1) which processes influenced the conformation of North Fluminense? (2) Of the diferente dynamics developed in this spatiality, from the 16th century to the present, which ones are still present and characterize the regional? It is believed that from the understanding of these different points, it is possible to comprehend the North Fluminense of today, highlighted on the national scene for receiving Major Intervention Projects (such as Porto do Açu, the Campos Basin oil exploration, among others that are still in the elaboration phase), but marked by relations that are linked to the golden period of sugar cane activity. We start from the idea that the constitution of a region, as emphasized by Bourdieu (1989), comes from a process of “division”, or, as Haesbaert (2018) points out, is an "art-fact". Thus, the region is a product of a certain period, influenced by contextual processes, historically constructed, linked to it. At the same time, the region has a direct influence on the dynamics that will shape itself. With this, it must be emphasized by its concrete aspects, emphasizing the characteristics of its delimitation, and by its abstract plan, making explicit the relational issues that were present in its materialization. Thus, there is the idea that there is no way to understand regional formation without emphasizing the processes that have followed and that have influenced the dynamics that shape the region. In the case of North Fluminense, its constitution bases date from the beginning of Brazilian colonization, in the 16th century, but the most striking features are constituted at the turn of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, a moment in which the sugarcane activity gains notoriety on the national scene , reinforcing the regional structuring and the social, political and economic relations that characterize the region. However, from the second half of the 20th century, especially after the 1970s, with the decline of the sugar and ethanol sector and the intensification of oil production in the Campos Basin, new dynamics are instituted in this regionalization. With the search for these answers, it is believed that there will be a better possibility of understanding this complexity that constitutes the current North Fluminense.
dc.description.resumoAs discussões empreendidas na tese têm como base de investigação a análise de duas questões principais: (1) quais são os processos que influenciaram a conformação do Norte Fluminense? (2) Das diferentes dinâmicas desenvolvidas nessa espacialidade, do século XVI até a atualidade, quais ainda se fazem presentes e caracterizam o regional? Acredita-se que a partir do entendimento desses diferentes pontos, faz-se possível compreender o Norte Fluminense de hoje, ressaltado no cenário nacional por receber Grandes Projetos de Intervenção (como o Porto do Açu, a exploração petrolífera da Bacia de Campos, entre outros que ainda estão em fase de elaboração), mas marcado por relações que se vinculam ao período áureo da atividade canavieira. Parte-se da ideia de que a constituição de uma região, como ressalta Bourdieu (1989) provém de um processo de “di-visão” ou, como aponta Haesbaert (2018), é um “arte-fato”. Assim, a região é um produto de determinado período, influenciado por processos contextuais, historicamente construídos, ligados a ela. Ao mesmo tempo, a região exerce influência direta na composição das dinâmicas que irão lhe conformar. Com isso, ela deve ser enfatizada tanto por seus aspectos concretos, ressaltando as características de sua delimitação, quanto por seu plano abstrato, explicitando as questões relacionais que se fizeram presentes na sua materialização. Assim, tem-se a ideia de que não há como compreender a formação regional sem enfatizar os processos que se sucederam e que influenciaram as dinâmicas que conformam a região. No caso do Norte Fluminense, suas bases de constituição datam do início da colonização brasileira, no século XVI, mas os traços mais marcantes são constituídos na virada do século XIX e início do século XX, momento no qual a atividade canavieira ganha notoriedade no cenário nacional, reforçando a estruturação regional e as relações sociais, políticas e econômicas que caracterizam a região. Contudo, a partir da segunda metade do século XX, principalmente após a década de 1970, com o declínio do setor sucroalcooleiro e a intensificação da produção de petróleo na Bacia de Campos, novas dinâmicas são instituídas nesse regionalizar. Com a busca dessas respostas, acredita-se que haverá uma melhor possibilidade de compreensão dessa complexidade que constitui o Norte Fluminense atual.
