- ItemAnálise do percurso terapêutico de idosos portadores de catarata: pesquisa nacional de saúde, Brasil, 2019(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2025-01-01) Coelho, Roberta Goltara; Co-orientador1; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; Orientador1; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; 1º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; 2º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; 3º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/Introduction: Cataracts are the leading cause of reversible blindness and represent a major public health challenge in Brazil. Associated with population aging and social inequalities, the disease affects millions of people and has a significant impact on the Unified Health System (SUS). There is a scarcity of national analyses focusing on the therapeutic itinerary (care pathway) for individuals with cataracts. This gap can be addressed using data from the 2019 National Health Survey (PNS). Such analyses can contribute to identifying the magnitude of the condition and the differences in access to diagnosis and surgical treatment in Brazil. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of cataract diagnosis and associated factors, as well as the indication and effective performance of corrective surgery among Brazilian residents aged 60 and over. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, population-based study using data from the 2019 National Health Survey (PNS). The prevalence rates of cataract diagnosis, surgical indication, and surgical undertaking were calculated. Crude and adjusted Prevalence Ratios (PRs) were estimated using Poisson regression with robust variance for sociodemographic and regional factors. The final sample included 22,728 older adults. Results: Among the study participants, 40.4% (95% CI: 39.7–41.1) had a clinical diagnosis of cataract. Among these, the largest proportion (83.3%; 95% CI: 82.5–84.1) received an indication for surgical treatment, which demonstrates the recognition of the therapeutic need. However, a relevant barrier was observed in access to the subsequent stage: only 73.2% (95% CI: 72.1–74.2) of individuals with an indication for surgery actually underwent the procedure. Thus, it was found that more than a quarter (26.9%; 95% CI: 25.8–27.9) of cases requiring intervention did not complete the care pathway. Final considerations: This study highlighted the high prevalence of cataracts among older adults in Brazil and the barriers to accessing surgery, marked by social and regional inequalities. The findings reinforce the need to strengthen primary care, modernize regulatory mechanisms, and expand funding for eye health to ensure equity and reduce the burden of preventable blindness in the country.
- ItemAnálise epidemiológica da Covid-19 em indígenas aldeados do Espírito Santo(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2025-09-24) Siqueira, Priscila Carminati; Sales, Carolina Maia Martins ; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-2879-5621; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3613476296412930; Maciel, Ethel Leonor Noia ; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4826-3355; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3761398932271892; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; 1º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; 2º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; 3º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/; 4º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; https://lattes.cnpq.br/Introduction: Indigenous peoples are more vulnerable to illness and death from COVID 19, since infectious and parasitic diseases rank among the main causes of mortality in these populations, especially when compared to other ethnic and racial groups. This vulnerability is intensified by their collective way of life, cultural traditions that favor the spread of SARS-CoV-2 within communities, as well as social inequalities, difficulties in accessing health services, and the geographic locations of the villages. General objective: To analyze the epidemiology of COVID-19 among the Indigenous population living in villages in the state of Espírito Santo, from 2020 to 2024. Methods: This thesis is structured in the form of four scientific manuscripts, each with a specific objective. Accordingly, each manuscript adopts its own methodological procedures, which together comprise the overall research results and are presented in detail in the individual description of each product. Results: The scoping review initially identified 2,224 studies, resulting in a final sample of 47 publications. The countries with the largest number of studies were the United States, Brazil, and Mexico, with a concentration in 2021 (42.6%). A higher number of deaths was observed among Indigenous males over 60 years of age. The most prevalent comorbidities were cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Incidence and mortality rates were higher among Indigenous peoples compared to other racial groups. The completeness analysis of COVID-19 notification forms for Indigenous villagers in Espírito Santo in 2020 showed “excellent” completeness (65.3%), although “very poor” completeness was found in 19.2% of the evaluated items, indicating that some variables in the forms had low data recording quality. The epidemiological profile analysis of the Indigenous population in Espírito Santo from 2020 to 2024 showed a cumulative incidence rate of 30,860.07 per 100,000 inhabitants, mortality rate of 118.09 per 100,000 inhabitants, and a case fatality rate of 0.38%. The highest concentration of COVID-19 cases in this population occurred in 2022, with a downward trend in the following years. Women (55.74%) and Tupiniquim individuals (92.28%) predominated, with the age group of 18–59 years (65.05%) and a mean age of 31.5 years. Deaths occurred in individuals aged ≥18 years, being more frequent among those aged ≥80 years (13.64%, p<0.001), with a mean age at death of 74 years. The highest incidences were recorded in the villages of Pau Brasil, Boa Esperança, and Caieiras Velha. The villages of Guaxindiba, Novo Brasil, and Olho d’Água reported no cases of the disease. The highest mortality and case fatality rates occurred in the village of Areal (395.25 per 100,000 inhabitants; 3.84%). Conclusion: Indigenous peoples present a complex and dynamic health profile, directly related to historical processes of social, economic, and environmental change, linked to the expansion and consolidation of demographic and economic frontiers of society across different regions of Brazil. Over the centuries, these frontiers have exerted significant influence on the determinants of Indigenous health, whether through the introduction of new pathogens causing severe epidemics, the usurpation of territories hindering or preventing subsistence, or the persecution and killing of individuals and even entire communities. Currently, other challenges to Indigenous health have emerged, such as chronic non-communicable diseases, environmental contamination, and food sustainability difficulties. Therefore, it is essential to implement public policies aimed at controlling risk factors within communities, expanding access to health services, and strengthening vaccination campaigns, in order to prevent new outbreaks of COVID-19 and other vaccine-preventable diseases in the villages

Its use in agroecosystems is justified to improve soil properties, increase microbial diversity and promote the circulation of nutrients, being an effective way to increase food production. Although the use of biosolids in agricultural production systems is a great option for reusing this material, this practice still needs to be controlled to be able to provide some risks, such as the presence of heavy metals, pathogens, organic compounds and toxins in excess, which can cause losses in agricultural practice. Another possibility for using biosolids is as a substrate for seedling production. It is capable of increasing the growth and improving the nutrition of seedlings, facilitating the lifespan and the cost of acquiring substrates. However, the physical attributes of biosolids may not be specific to all species, requiring tests to indicate an ideal proportion of biosolids in relation to the substrate. One of the treatments that sewage sludge can undergo is liming, and it is essential to understand the dynamics of soil pH with biosolids fertilization. Unlimed sewage sludge reduces soil pH after 21 days. However, in general, the application of 80 t ha-1 reduces pH by 4.8%, 9.9% and 9.6% for sandy, medium and clayey soils, respectively. Limed sewage sludge presents high soil reactivity after seven days, with a reduction in the occurrence of alkalinization over time. In general, for sandy soil, the pH value was around 7.6, while for medium and clayey soils the pH value was 7.4 at the dose of 80 t ha-1. Sandy textured soils with lower moderate capacity, selected from smaller doses of limed sewage sludge to reach pH 7. Based on these studies, the prediction of biosolids in seedling production and orange tree planning was then tested. Citrus farming is economically important in national agriculture, and also in the southern region of Espírito Santo. Biosolids have the potential to be used in the composition of substrate for the production of citrus rootstocks, replacing the commercial substrate. The use of biosolids in the proportion of up to 60% for Rangpur lime seedlings and up to 45% for ‘San Diego’ citrandarin seedlings promoted better responses in relation to initial growth and plant quality. In the field, biosolids can also be used for initial fertilization of the crop. The application of biosolids at doses of 100%, 115% and 150% of the N recommendation for the crop improved the chemical attributes of the soil, such as P, Ca, SB, CTC, effectiveness and base saturation. The levels of calcium, SB, t, V increased until 9 months, while organic matter increased until 11.7 months. In general, biosolids did not promote an increase in the content of micronutrients (Fe, Cu, Zn, Mn and B) in relation to mineral fertilization

The genus Coffea has two widely known species: Coffea arabica, which has an Ethiopian origin, and Coffea canephora, which originates from an area that covers an extension from the Congo until New Guinea. Drought tolerance is a desirable characteristic in crops because it allows plants to survive and grow in regions with low water availability, or with problems of annual distribution. With the advancement of climate change and the increasing consumption of food worldwide, drought tolerance becomes a key characteristic to ensure food security and sustain the productivity that agriculture demands. The selection of plants that can tolerate water scarcity can increase the productivity and resilience of species under conditions of water stress, improve global food security, and promote adaptation to climate change. Thus, Coffea canephora has great economic importance for the state of Espírito Santo (ES) due to its productive potential and the quality of its beverage, which is consumed daily. The 12 progenies used in the experiment were selected from reciprocal crosses 109x120 and 120x109 between Conilon coffee clones with characteristics relevant to coffee growing, and it was found that clone 109 is susceptible and 120 is tolerant to drought. Of the 12 genotypes selected, 6 were preselected from the 120x109 population (3 tolerant – 3T, 6T, and 7T and 3 susceptible – 4S, 2S, 10S); and 6 were preselected from the 109x120 population (3 tolerant – 1T, 6T and 50T; and 3 susceptible 42S, 44S and 59S). The 120T and 109S parents were included in the analyses. Therefore, the objective of this proposal was to select Coffea canephora genotypes from crosses between clones 120 and 109, verifying the possible effects of reciprocal crosses 109x120 and 120x109 between Conilon coffee clones, with characteristics of interest for the coffee breeding program. Among the variables that were analyzed, the genotypes 1T, 2S, 3T, 6aT, 7T, 10S, 40S, 44S, and 59S stood out statistically in conditions of water scarcity, evidencing their tolerance to water deficit. In particular, the clones 2S, 40S, 44S, and 6aT, showed greater efficiency in water use compared to the others

The State of Mato Grosso stands out with an average productivity of 6,338 kg/ha and production of 41,620,1 tons of grains, followed by Paraná, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and Minas Gerais. The average productivity per maize area in the State of Espírito Santo is 2,955 kg/ha, ranking at the bottom. Among the problems that cause low maize production are inadequate fertilization management, the selection and planting of genetic materials susceptible to adverse environments (such as saline) and post-harvest pest infestation caused mainly by Sitophilus zeamais, responsible for grain losses and seeds. To prepare this research, 5 factorial experiments were prioritized, two (2) in the field and three (3) carried out in the laboratories of UFES-Alegre and Embrapa Milho e Sorgo. The objective of this research was to evaluate the physiological, morphological and productive performance of maize genotypes subjected to saline environment conditions, mineral fertilizer sources and alternative control of Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky. The first chapter aimed to evaluate the effect of saline concentrations on seed germination and development of maize seedlings, and it was concluded that the best response to saline stress was obtained in the White genotype, in all variables evaluated. The second chapter evaluated the physiological and morphological behavior of maize genotypes in response to the application of mineral and organomineral fertilizers and it was concluded that fertilization with organomineral fertilizer provided similar responses when compared to complete fertilization - NPK. In the third chapter, the nutritional status and production of corn genotypes were evaluated based on the application of mineral and organomineral fertilizer, and it was concluded that the hybrid AG1051 and the varieties Branco, Roxo, Palha roxa and Vermelho showed higher grain productivity when they were fertilized with NPK. The fourth chapter aimed to evaluate the host preference of Sitophilus zeamais in stored maize seeds. And it was concluded that maize genotypes present different mechanisms of non-preference and oviposition by Sitophilus zeamais, with Roxo genotype standing out, which presented antixenosis resulting from the effect of nutritional properties and seed hardness. In the fifth chapter, the objective was to evaluate the effect of dosages of Corymbia citriodora powders on Sitophilus zeamais in the conservation of maize seeds and it was concluded that the interaction between Corymbia citriodora powders and genetic resistance of maize genotypes constitutes a sustainable strategy for efficient seed protection for family and organic farming

In seeking to understand this phenomenon, the aim of this study was to investigate sports retirement and the career transition of former Brazilian artistic gymnasts to the circus, more specifically, to the Canadian companies Cirque du Soleil and Cavalia. This is a qualitative study, with data collected through semi-structured interviews. The research sample consisted of 12 former gymnasts, over 18 years old, selected through purposive sampling. For data analysis, Thematic Analysis was employed, allowing the identification, organization, analysis, and reporting of patterns within the data through detailed organization and description. Both voluntary and involuntary reasons for retirement were identified, including injuries, being released from clubs, and personal choices. The research also highlighted the complexity of the transition to post-competitive life and the need for adequate support. Many former gymnasts found new opportunities in the circus. The data revealed that intrinsic motivation for joining the circus stemmed from the pursuit of self-fulfillment, learning a new language, the circus lifestyle, leveraging athletic experience, and an appreciation for the arts. Extrinsic motivations included the desire to live abroad, travel opportunities, financial gain, and the influence of close individuals. The transition process to the circus presented challenges that fostered personal and professional growth through more flexible training and increased responsibility as performers. The study emphasizes the importance of ongoing support and evidence-based interventions to ensure the well-being of athletes in their new journeys
- ItemDo direito à educação : a educação especial numa perspectiva inclusiva em Marilândia-ES(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2025-12-10) Gabriel, Emilio; Co-orientador1; https://orcid.org/; Lattes; Orientador1; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; 1º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; Lattes; 2º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; Lattes; 3º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; Lattes; 4º membro da banca; https://orcid.org/; LattesThis study aims to investigate and analyze how the right to education has been implemented through educational policies and practices from an inclusive perspective for students identified as needing Special Education in the municipality of Marilândia-ES. The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that the right to education is not merely a theoretical debate about origins or foundations, but its materialization for students identified as needing Special Education in mainstream schools as an obligation of the State in promoting a society that moves towards equity in the conditions of material life. We used as a theoretical framework for the reflection and interpretation of the data produced, authors who address the historicity of rights, including the right to education, such as Norberto Bobbio and Carlos Roberto Jamil Cury, as well as Lev Semionovitch Vygotsky, in the interpretation of educational practices and for his political vision regarding inclusion. Our specific objectives were: a) to analyze official documents and municipal legal acts referring to Special Education and whether they influence the organization of this modality in the municipality; b) to understand and analyze the didactic-pedagogical organization of the municipality in order to verify the realization of the right to education for students identified as needing Special Education in daily practice; and c) to identify, through narratives, how educational practices have materialized – or not – the public policies underway in the municipality so that they converge towards the inclusion of students identified as needing Special Education in mainstream schools and, consequently, to guarantee the right to education. As a methodological approach, we used a qualitative case study, employing as data production strategies the documentary analysis of municipal laws and regulations related to Special Education and semi structured narrative interviews with professionals involved in this modality, from the Municipal Secretariat of Education – SEMED, to the schools. The data produced were transcribed and categorized, and analyzed in light of the historical-cultural matrix. We were able to ascertain, through the study, that there is a legal framework that guarantees the right of access and possible permanence of students identified as needing Special Education in mainstream schools, in addition to the existence of pedagogical practices adapted to the context of Special Education, which signals a concern with the right to learn of these individuals. However, there are issues to overcome, such as the need to create a sector to address the demands of Special Education, the revision of the Special Educational Resource Rooms (SRMs) in schools that offer Special Educational Needs support and their extension to Early Childhood Education, as well as overcoming the public-philanthropic/private relationship by prioritizing specialized institutions with human and financial resources coming from public administration

However, the lack of standardized parameters for spleen measurement hinders the diagnosis of splenomegaly as well as the differentiation between physiological and pathological conditions. In this context, the present study aimed to establish reference values for splenic size in healthy dogs of different sizes and ages, assessing distinct anatomical regions of the spleen using B-mode ultrasonography. Thirty healthy dogs were examined and allocated into three groups of ten animals each, according to body size, with a mean age of approximately three years and a mean body weight of 13 kg. The animals underwent physical and complementary evaluations, including complete blood count and abdominal ultrasound for measuring the height of the splenic head, body, and tail regions, as well as the diameter of the splenic hilum in longitudinal sec tion. Animals presenting systemic clinical, hematological, or ultrasonographic abnor malities were excluded from the study. The difference in dimensions among the various splenic regions was assessed between size groups, and within each group it was ver ified whether age range exerted any influence. The results demonstrated that spleen size varies according to the animals’ body size, being directly proportional to body weight. Within each group, the body of the spleen exhibited larger measurements com pared to other regions, whereas the tail and head showed no significant differences between them. Additionally, the splenic hilum showed variation according to dog size. No significant influence of age range on splenic dimensions was observed within groups. We conclude that body weight tends to influence spleen size and that B-mode ultrasonography is a safe and effective method for its measurement, contributing to the standardization of splenic assessment in this species

Evidence suggests that different exposure patterns to OP compounds induce cardiovascular, respiratory, behavioral, cognitive, motor, oxidative/nitrosative, and inflammatory impairments. In previous studies, we observed that a single-dose intoxication with chlorpyrifos (CPF), an OP, caused behavioral impairments in contextual fear conditioning (CFC). However, we did not evaluate whether acute intoxication would impair the autonomic response in CFC. Furthermore, studies show that the use of anesthetics, such as ketamine and xylazine, can interfere with behavioral and cardiovascular responses. Therefore, we investigated the behavioral, autonomic, and biochemical effects of acute exposure to CPF in rats subjected to CFC, exploring how variations in experimental conditions, such as protocol order, anesthesia, surgery, and time, can influence the results obtained. To this end, adult Wistar rats were subjected to the CFC test. The CFC was divided into three sessions: conditioning, extinction, and recall extinction. Exposure to CPF (20 mg/kg, i.p.) always occurred after conditioning. Autonomic (mean arterial pressure, MAP, and heart rate, HR) and behavioral (freezing) parameters were recorded during the extinction and recall extinction sessions. Four different protocols were performed: Protocol 1 – femoral artery cannulation surgery under ketamine/xylazine (80/10 mg/kg) anesthesia 24 h before conditioning and the effect of CPF on the CFC 24 h after intoxication; Protocol 2 – cannulation surgery 24 h after conditioning and the effect of CPF on the CFC 48 h after intoxication; Protocol 3 – extinction session 48 h after conditioning and CPF administration, in the absence of surgery and anesthesia; Protocol 4 – anesthesia with the ketamine/xylazine mixture, 24 h after conditioning, in the absence of surgery. At the end of the experiments, the animals were euthanized for sample collection to assess acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) enzyme activity, and to quantify nitrosative stress markers (NO2-, NO3-, and total NO) in the hippocampus and trunk. In protocol 1, acute CPF intoxication impaired extinction and increased fear expression 24 h after intoxication without affecting MAP or HR. Conversely, in protocol 2, acute CPF exposure altered the pressor and tachycardic responses of intoxicated animals that underwent surgery 24 h after conditioning, without affecting behavioral responses. In protocols 3 and 4, acute CPF poisoning impaired fear extinction, while the anesthetic combination of ketamine and xylazine and the anesthetic combination with CPF also impaired the extinction of conditioned fear. In all four protocols, it was observed that poisoning led to cholinesterase inhibition. Furthermore, acute CPF poisoning altered the levels of NO2-, NO3-, and total NO in animals 72 h after poisoning. Thus, it is concluded that acute CPF poisoning of rats impairs behavioral and cardiovascular responses in the CFC, and that the anesthetic combination and surgery may interfere with these results.

Its significance extends beyond economic aspects, encompassing cultural and social dimensions, forging a deep connection between communities and the environment. Despite its crucial role, the generation of waste from fish processing poses a significant challenge for the fishing sector. The current management of this waste is characterized by worrying irregularities, leading to substantial negative environmental impacts. This inadequate management not only jeopardizes the quality of marine ecosystems but also contributes to large-scale environmental manipulation. This research delves into the critical role of artisanal fishing in the environmental impacts associated with fishing activities in the municipality of Marataízes, Espírito Santo. The primary objective is to evaluate the environmental impacts resulting from the irregular disposal of waste from artisanal fishing in the Barra do Itapemirim and Pontal ports, located in the municipality of Marataízes. The methodology employed in this study integrates both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Initially, the evaluation of the artisanal fishermen's profile involved the application of questionnaires, following a documentary methodological approach. This stage encompassed aspects identified in the diagnosis, including the disposal of waste resulting from fish processing. To analyze the composition of the generated waste, physical, chemical, and nutritional characterizations were performed, providing a comprehensive understanding of the waste generated in the process. The results and analyses of this research enabled the characterization of the fishermen's profile and fishing activities in the studied communities. Furthermore, it was possible to understand the composition of fish waste, noting the significant presence of lipids, proteins, and energy. It was also identified that the continuous disposal of this waste is causing significant environmental impacts due to the high concentration of the parameters found. This made it possible to suggest measures for the reuse of this waste, such as the production of fishmeal, aiming to mitigate these impacts and promote a more sustainable use of available resources

Using official budget data re-grouped by functional classification of expenditure, the study articulates empirical analysis with the theoretical framework of the derivation school. The findings suggest that, despite shifts in political leadership, the core of fiscal policy remained structurally aligned with adjustment imperatives, favouring financial outlays and incentives to the private sector, while deprioritising key areas of social spending. The structure of state revenues reinforces this trend by granting tax exemptions without robust mechanisms for oversight and transparency, thereby deepening the regressive nature of the tax system. Ultimately, the Espírito Santo budget functions as an organic component of state policy—understood here as the expanded reproduction of capital—managing distributive tensions without overcoming them and revealing the persistence of a fiscal rationality largely impervious to partisan or conjunctural change.

However, controlling their high chemical reactivity at the edges, due to its zig-zag edge configuration, remains a challenge from an experimental standpoint. The strategy investigated in this study to address this characteristic is to create an insulating matrix of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) so that the triangulenes can be embedded in the h-BN structure, maintaining their electronic and magnetic properties. Given the size of the studied systems, the Density Functional Theory will be used in all electronic structure calculations. The results revealed that the formation of h-BN or carbon domains is equally possible, and the multiplicities of the ground state are determined solely by the carbon sites, regardless of their position, size, or whether the carbon islands are connected or not. Additionally, Lieb’s Theorem holds true in all cases when considering only the carbon sites, which can be a useful tool in determining the ground state spin of these systems

The singularity of the problem lies in its lexicographical objective function, which successively prioritizes the minimization of the number of vehicles, total distance, and waiting time, and in the integration of a robust set of operational constraints. Such constraints include meeting pre-defined time windows, vehicle weight capacity, LIFO (Last In, First Out) unloading policy, and load stability requirements, such as minimum support area and maximum stackable weight. The proposed method consists of a two-stage hybrid heuristic: a pre packing phase with Simulated Annealing to estimate the length space occupied by each customer, followed by an Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search for route optimization. The approach is enhanced by mechanisms such as Adaptive Container Length and the Total Compaction Algorithm, which intensify the search for solutions with more customers per route. Computational experiments, carried out on a set of instances adapted from the literature, confirmed the relevance of the hierarchical formulation, evidencing consistent trade-offs between objectives. The results demonstrate that the method is capable of generating robust and adaptable solutions, reconciling operational efficiency and practical feasibility in complex logistical scenarios. The main contribution of this work is, therefore, the formalization as an optimization problem and the proposal of a solution method, offering a robust tool for logistical scenarios that demand the optimization of multiple criteria with well-defined strategic priorities

The loads detected by the developed test were expressed in terms of stress in kPa, with the highest recorded stress being 329.28 kPa, for a sample with a particle size distribution between 0 mm and 4.75 mm and a volumetric expansion of 4.67%. It was found that applying a pre-load of 5.42 kPa (10 kgf) to the sample, before conducting the test, can increase the final stress by 75% compared to samples without the application of this pre-load. The lowest confinement expansion stress level was 10.21 kPa, measured in a sample with volumetric expansion below 3%, already pre-cured and without pre-load applied at the start of the test. It was possible to correlate the results obtained with values of void ratio and the free lime content in the sample. The correlation between void ratio and volumetric expansion, and the measured expansion load was very strong and inversely proportional, where lower void ratios resulted in higher measured values. It was verified that the developed equipment is indeed capable of performing this measurement, and it was concluded that the expansion load is closely correlated with volumetric expansion parameters, and that voids influence this expansion load in a confinement situation

The need to reconcile the interest in accessing public higher education in Brazil with existing regulations, inclusion policies, and the State's budgetary constraints has increased the complexity of the admission processes. Simultaneously, the 1988 Federal Constitution expanded the possibilities for access to justice and the role of the Judiciary. In this context, the judicialization of admission processes has become a frequent trend, and UFES, particularly as the only public university in the state where it is located, is not immune to this phenomenon. The research is documentary, descriptive, and explanatory, conducted through a mixed-method approach. Quantitative and qualitative stages of document analysis were carried out on the judicial cases available on the virtual page of the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region, related to admission to UFES undergraduate programs. The results present an overview that highlights the increase in the number of lawsuits between 2018 and 2023, as well as the Judiciary's involvement in implementing public policy for higher education admission. The phenomenon predominantly involves sensitive issues, such as the quota system. Moreover, the analysis of the judicial decisions related to these cases demonstrates that there is no judicial activism in the content of the decisions, that the rulings are primarily based on factual matters and principled and jurisprudential arguments, and that UFES is the losing party in a minority of cases. However, the rulings against the University—especially those that provisionally mandate enrollment—have significant consequences for public administration and students. Therefore, the study of the judicialization phenomenon reveals weaknesses, potentialities, and solutions for public administration, making it possible to outline recommendations that contribute to improving the admission processes for undergraduate programs at UFES, in order to prevent recurring legal disputes.
- ItemObtenção de peptídeos com atividades biológicas obtidas a partir das vísceras de tilápia (Oreochromis spp.)(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2025-06-27) Vasconcelos, Antônio Victor Baioco; Co-orientador1; Orientador1; https://orcid.org/; 1º membro da banca; 2º membro da banca; 3º membro da bancaThe intensive production of tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) in Brazil generates large volumes of organic waste, particularly viscera, which are rich in proteins and enzymes and hold biotechnological potential. This study aimed to obtain, fractionate, and characterize bioactive peptides from tilapia viscera, with an emphasis on antioxidant, antimicrobial, and toxicological activities, in alignment with principles of circular economy and sustainable development. Proteins were extracted using organic solvents, desalted by molecular exclusion chromatography (Sephadex G-25), and fractionated by molecular exclusion chromatography (Sephadex G-50), yielding seven peptide fractions (F1 to F7). The antioxidant activity was evaluated by the ABTS•⁺ radical scavenging assay, using Trolox as the standard. Fractions F4, F5, and F6 showed the highest antioxidant capacities (1933.4; 1520.5; and 1546.7 µmol·L⁻¹ Trolox equivalents, respectively), suggesting the presence of low molecular weight peptides enriched in amino acid residues such as tyrosine, tryptophan, and histidine. Toxicological evaluation was performed using larvae of Tenebrio molitor as an alternative in vivo model in compliance with the 3Rs principles. The fractions were injected at three different concentrations (10, 40, and 80 µg), and larval survival was monitored over 120 hours. A binomial generalized linear model (GLM) indicated dose- and time-dependent toxicity. Fractions F4, F5, and F6 were the most toxic (≥ 93.3 % mortality at 80 µg), while F2 showed the lowest toxicity, with mortality remaining below 40 % even at the highest dose. Conversely, none of the peptide fractions exhibited detectable antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, or Pseudomonas aeruginosa under the disc diffusion assay, possibly due to the absence of bactericidal peptides or limitations in compound diffusion through the agar matrix. In conclusion, the tilapia viscera represent a promising source of antioxidant peptides, with fractions F4, F5, and F6 standing out as candidates for further development. The use of T. molitor proved to be a viable alternative model for preliminary toxicity screening. These findings support the valorization of aquaculture by-products as bioactive resources and provide a foundation for developing functional ingredients for the food, pharmaceutical, or cosmetic industries

Based on an analysis of the exhibition experience—understood as a sensitive laboratory in which artworks, environment, and interventions interact—the study proposes a critical reading of curatorship as an active device for the redistribution of the sensible, breaking with traditional narratives and hegemonic consensuses. Grounded in theoretical frameworks that engage with the perspectives of Jacques Rancière, Maria Lind, and other authors who address political aesthetics, the research analyzes how the contemporary curator operates not only in the formal organization of artworks but also in the construction of narratives that challenge the boundaries between the artistic and the political. Using a mixed methodology that combines documentary analysis, interviews, and case studies, the work highlights the relevance of the curator as an agent of cultural mediation. It thus contributes to broadening the debate around critical curatorship and the history of exhibitions, emphasizing its role in contesting structures of power and reconfiguring the practices of perception and experience of art

However, achieving the universalization of these spaces has faced a series of practical challenges, with the shortage of properly qualified librarians being one of the main obstacles nationwide. These difficulties compromise the effectiveness of policies aiming to universalize school libraries, making it crucial to seek solutions to overcome these barriers. In this context, this study investigates the socio-educational role of reading rooms in municipal schools of Cachoeiro de Itapemirim/ES, as well as explores how librarians can contribute to managing these spaces, using librarian praxis as a central approach. The study diagnoses the current situation of the reading rooms, analyzes the actions taken, the professionals involved, the physical environment, management, and existing policies. It also examines the integration and participation of librarians in these rooms, comparing them with school libraries, and discusses how librarian praxis can be a differential in managing these spaces. To achieve these objectives, a mixed methodological approach is adopted, combining exploratory and descriptive elements. The research includes an initial literature and document review, followed by a mixed data collection to understand the dynamics of reading rooms in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim. Finally, a Case Study method is used to analyze the data obtained and formulate recommendations. Based on this knowledge, projects for reading rooms managed by librarians are suggested as a viable alternative to address the lack of qualified professionals. The results highlight the reading room as a sociocultural device and information center, emphasizing the importance of their management by qualified librarians. Furthermore, it underscores the value of librarian praxis for the development of reading rooms, with an emphasis on their sociocultural and critical dimensions
