In Institutional Shelters, it is essential that professionals are prepared and aware to deal with this population, since, depending on the frequency, severity and duration of the violence suffered, these children and adolescents may be in a group at clinical risk for development antisocial behaviors, such as aggression, self-injury and disobedience. It is understood, therefore, the need to understand the participation of caregivers or social educators in the maintenance of antisocial behaviors of children and adolescents in care and to develop practical material to guide the management of behaviors by these professionals. Therefore, the objectives of this research were: to describe the difficulties of caregivers with problematic behavior of the hosted, classifying which antisocial behaviors caregivers have greater difficulty in dealing with; identify the role in contingencies of antisocial behaviors emitted by adolescents; verify the agreement of the characteristics of antisocial behaviors among caregivers; develop a material in the form of a booklet with a practical nature that guides caregivers and other professionals about the management of antisocial responses. In Study 1, Antisocial behaviors of adolescents in foster care: an indirect functional assessment based on the difficulties of caregivers, the Functional Analysis Screening Tool was used to carry out an Indirect Assessment (Functional Assessment) of the antisocial behaviors of fostered adolescents and hypothesize functions , and a Difficulty Scale, in order to investigate which behaviors caregivers have greater and lesser difficulty in dealing with. The results and interpretations pointed out that the main functions were attention as a social reinforcer and the function of cessation of aversive stimulation as a negative reinforcer of escape/avoidance. This research pointed out the great involvement of caregivers in the inadvertent maintenance of antisocial behavior of a fostered adolescent, demonstrating the insufficiency of knowledge and effective practices in the resolution and management of problematic behaviors by educators. Regarding difficulties, the behavior rated as the most difficult to deal with was destroying objects and the easiest to attack. Despite these answers, the triple contingency assessment pointed out divergences between the answers given and the contingencies described. In Study 2, Management of antisocial behaviors of children and adolescents in institutional care: a hornbook proposal for caregivers, it was proposed the development of a practical booklet and it was segmented into 5 sections: introduction, life story, prosociability, triple contingency teaching and completion. The hornbook was named “Problem behavior management: A hornbook for caregivers” and was evaluated by eight judges (three psychologists - a CA specialist, a master and a doctor, a psychopedagogist, an AI social educator, a coordinator of a home of AI, a social worker and a kindergarten teacher), who assessed the applicability and clarity of the content. A final version has been prepared, posted online and will be shared with Institutional Shelters.
- ItemContingências para a alimentação sustentável: uma análise do Relatório EAT-Lancet(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2021-09-30) Campiteli, Flora Regina Pires; Alves, Diego Zilio; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-3506-7665; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8715210181570846; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-4831-5266; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7348099760644445; Gusso, Helder Lima; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-8688-2010; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3784831238711873; Pessôa, Candido Vinicius Bocaiuva Barnsley; https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5651-6319; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9231637625648303This work consists in an analysis of the contingencies described in the EAT-Lancet Report about healthy and sustainable diets. We focused on contingencies related to the consumption of animal proteins, mainly red meat, because this is the practice with more probability of producing harmful effects to one’s health and to the environment. Starting with the discussion of the context of opportunities (i.e., access to reinforcers depending on social and economic position) and considerations about selection by consequences and the tension between immediate and delayed in the context of pro-environmental behavior that, by definition, relates to delayed consequences, we explored possible challenges to implement sustainable behavioral changes related to food consumption. We also discussed the scarcity of studies on behavior analysis and sustainability that deals with eating behaviors, even though these producing harmful effects to the environment. Finally, we argued that the EAT-Lancet report provides possible paths to inform interventions by social/cultural contingency planning and, as such, it is an indispensable document for behavior analysts interested in working with sustainable practices.
- ItemLugares do organismo na análise do comportamento: uma reflexão conceitual e quantitativa(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2019-03-20) Fonseca, Kelvin; Alves, Diego Zilio; Carrara, Kester; Borloti, ElizeuBehavior analysis defines itself as the science which studies the behavior of organisms, but the “organism” doesn’t receive the same attention “behavior” does. In coursebooks of basic principles and vocabularies it’s not possible to find an explicit and consensual definition of this “organism”, and despite the term being present in the title of one of the most significant works of behavior analysis, B. F. Skinner’s The Behavior of Organisms, its status seems uncertain, and its function has been the subject of debate. Also, in introductory books of psychology and non-behavioral-analytic literature can be found some critiques of behavior analysis that portray the field as presupposing a simplistic conception of the human being. Since the absence of a straightforward o rmulation can result in conceptual confusion in research inside the field as well as the perpetuation of misguided critiques outside of it, this work has sought to make it clear if there is a definition for the term in the field. With the Conceptual Interpretation of Text Procedure (PICT), we analyzed a sample of the behavioral-analytic literature and of Skinner’s works seeking to find a formulation for the term. We noted the “organism” is a locus where multiple discussions in behavior analysis flow to, and that far form having a single and homogeneous meaning, at least 10 different conceptions of the term can be found in 86 years of the literature, and it appears in at least 15 different contexts in Skinner’s writings. From 10 of these conceptions found in the behavioral analysis literature, 9 were about individual organisms and one about an organismic metaphor of society; they were divided into three big groups, depending on how they dealt with the demarcation between organism and environment: morphological conceptions took the skin as the relevant border, transdermal conceptions found such criterion lacking and proposed other alternatives, and organismical conceptions proposed the elimination of the term. In Skinner’s writings, we created categories based upon the texts, and after a description of some of them, we argue that there are at least three ambiguities in his writings regarding the demarcation criterion between organism and environment, to the phylogenetic role in the constitution of the organism, and the metaphorical extension of the individual organism as a model of society. Finally, we suggest four possible criteria to guide our choice or creation of a new conception of organism inside behavior analysis: the skin is not as important as a boundary, behavior arises from the activity of the organism as a whole, organism-environment mutuality, and the behavior is always right. The choice for these criteria was due not to these propositions being new in any way but rather to the extension of its implications, since the scientific activity of organisms writing about conceptions of organisms has long overarching consequences over time and space to other organisms, since it can describe the range and the limits of these organisms to change and to be modified by the world.
- ItemMicroagressão: uma análise conceitual sob a perspectiva da análise do comportamento(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-02-24) Barros, Micaela Acco de; Alves, Diego Zilio; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8715210181570846; https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3000-6836; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0283833137853437; Hunziker, Maria Helena Leite; Mizael, Tahcita MedradoThe concept of microaggression was postulated in 1977 by Chester Pierce, who defined it as “subtle, stunning, often automatic and non-verbal exchanges that have the function of diminishing or despising the target”. The concept of microaggression seems to be used for situations and behaviors that are not explicitly offensive, and it has become a common concept in the social sciences, used to classify different behaviors, being applied to the most diverse social issues. The objective of this work was to carry out a behavioral analysis of the concept of microaggression based on the literature in the area. For this, a survey was carried out in the Pepsic and PsycNet databases, searching for theoretical texts that dealt with the definition of the concept of "microaggression", literature review texts on "microaggression" and research texts that contained "microaggressions" as a dependent variable. Twenty-seven texts were analyzed, considering for the behavioral analysis the contexts in which microaggression behaviors occurred, the classes of behaviors and the consequences for the targets and agents of microaggressions. As a result, we obtained three central characteristics of microaggressions: subtlety, non-intentionality, and lack of consensus for its definition, as well as three classes of microaggression behaviors: stereotyping, inferiorization and invalidation. Consequently, for the targets, it was pointed out that successive exposures throughout life to episodes of microaggression are harmful, causing psychological damage. The difficulty in identifying microaggressive behaviors generates a social clash between those who understand the harmful effects of exposure to long-term prejudices, and those who minimize these effects, normalizing these practices, making it necessary to try to define the concept of microaggression more precisely and to make itself known and discussed, through socio-educational programs and research in the area.
- ItemO estudo da violência na Análise do Comportamento: Uma análise bibliográfica e conceitual.(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2020-03-27) Almeida, Raphael Rocha de; Alves, Diego Zilio; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8715210181570846; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; Hunziker, Maria Helena Leite; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/; Rocha, Cesar Antonio Alves da; https://orcid.org/; http://lattes.cnpq.br/Violence is a widely harmful phenomenon widespread along the history of humanity. - ItemRegras e poder: uma análise das contingências descritas no código de ética e disciplina dos militares capixabas(Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2023-03-24) Oliveira, Leticia Garcia de; Alves, Diego Zilio; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8715210181570846; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3902948234009812; Fernandes, Diego Mansano; Lourencetti, Luiz AntonioThis is a documental study guided by behavior analysis theoretical framework which uses the three-term contingency as the central unit of analysis. The objective of this research was to identify and describe the contingencies present in the rules comprising the new Code of Ethics and Discipline of Espírito Santo State Military and, subsequently, reflect on possible implications of these regulations considering: (a) their function in controlling the behavior of police officers; (b) their function for the institution of Miliary Police; and (c) their function for the civil society. To this end, the components of the contingencies were identified, described and subsequently analyzed by four judges regarding the objective of the very existence of the rule, considering its effects beyond the manifest function of controlling behavior. By “effects” we mean not the explicit function of controlling the behavior of the police officers, but their “purpose”: Whom does it serve? In other words, the goal was to try to understand about “who” one was thinking when building those rules and “why” they were created.
