The work with the compensation of those affected by the Fundão dam rupture is complex and unpredictable, revealing the insufficiency of the norms by demanding constant adjustments and updates of the procedures. In this sense, the indemnity work promotes the encounter of the AOI analyst with unexpected events that demand choices and actions. The ergological perspective was the theoretical lens chosen for the study, and it warns that the work activity implies that the worker makes frequent choices due to the confrontation of unpredictability in daily situations. This research aimed to understand the uses of self by AOI analysts who work in document analysis for the eligibility of those affected by the Fundão dam failure in the New Simplified Indemnity System, the Novel. This is a qualitative research, carried out through a documentary survey and application of individual semi-structured interviews with 11 analysts. For data analysis, the content analysis technique was used. The results could be presented based on four categories, created a posteriori, they are: a) The unpredictability in the indemnity work; b) Previous rules and indemnity work; c) Knowledge, values and renormalization in indemnity work and; d) Practice and singularities in indemnity work. This research highlighted the singularities of AOI analysts, based on the uses they make of themselves during their work. The research discussed the unpredictability and complexity of work from the point of view of AOI analysts. The analyzes showed that the prescriptions, while guiding the worker, are insufficient to handle the analysis work. This research also evidenced the relationship between experience and learning during the performance of the indemnity analysis activity. The singularities involved involved in the professionals’ activities were analiyzed, highghting the uses of the self that renormalize the indemnity work.
